Junior High Journey

Providing a Comprehensive Homeschool Jr High Classroom Experience

Sunlit Mountain Road

What is Junior High Journey?

Junior High Journey is a one-day-a-week academic program designed to help students transition from parent-directed learning to student responsibility.

Many capable junior high students still depend on reminders, help starting assignments, or encouragement to participate in discussion.

This class intentionally teaches the skills needed for high school:

• planning and completing weekly work
• speaking and participating in a group
• accepting correction
• managing time and assignments
• thinking through ideas, not just memorizing answers

Students meet once per week and complete guided assignments at home during the rest of the week.

By the end of the year, students function more like supported high school learners than elementary homeschoolers.

This class is a great fit for students who:

✔ are 12+ and ready for more independence
✔ can complete work at home with a checklist
✔ need accountability outside of mom
✔ are capable but hesitant writers or speakers
✔ benefit from discussion-based learning
✔ are preparing for high school expectations

This class is NOT a good fit if your student:

✘ refuses correction or feedback
✘ will not complete weekly assignments
✘ requires constant one-on-one teaching
✘ is not ready to participate respectfully in group discussion

How the Week Works

Class Day
8:30 AM – 3:00 PM | Thousand Oaks | 28 weeks

Students receive direct instruction, discussion, labs, and presentations.

At Home During the Week
Students follow a weekly checklist and complete approximately 4–6 hours of work each day across the subjects taught in class

Parents act as supervisors — not primary teachers.

Each week we review assignments together and go deeper into the material, helping students learn responsibility for their own work.

By the End of the Year Students Typically:

• write organized multi-paragraph assignments
• participate in thoughtful discussion
• speak in front of peers with confidence
• track and complete weekly work independently
• accept feedback without frustration

Parents often notice growth not only academically, but in maturity and confidence across all subjects.
